'99 - '00 Varsity Ice Hockey Game Summaries




DATE: December 2, 1999
OPPONENT: Bergen Catholic (Away)

In the team's debut of 1999, Seton Hall Prep started the season off well coming away with a victory, 4-3, against Bergen Catholic. The Pirates played a good first period, but then were somewhat outplayed by Bergen Catholic for periods two and three. Nonetheless, Seton Hall fought hard and pulled together for the win. Nick Silvestri had a goal and two assists for SHP. E.J. Solimine scored a goal and added an assist. Scott Eberenz notched three assists on the night. Brian Romano and Chris Barling scored the other two goals for the Blue and White.

OPPONENT: St. Joe's Metuchen (Away)

Seton Hall proved they are still a dominant force in New Jersey ice hockey by disposing St. Joe's Metuchen by the final score of 5-0. E.J. Solimine led the night with two goals and one assist.

OPPONENT: Bishop Eustace (Home)

Junior defenseman Brian Romano started the barrage by scoring the first goal in Seton Hall Prep's 10-0 victory over Bishop Eustace. Freshman defenseman Jon Ralph scored the second goal, and Seton Hall ran away with the game after that. E.J. Solimine, Scott Eberenz, and Ryan Collis all had two goals apiece. In addition, senior John Meyer had two assists, freshman Evan Massaro had a goal and assist, and sophomore Rudy Kelly had one assist.

OPPONENT: Christian Brothers Academy (Away)

After a slow start, the Pirates stepped up their play in the third period to defeat CBA by the final score of 5-1. Scott Eberenz lead the team with two goals and two assists. Brady Crooks, E.J. Solimine, and Evan Massaro chipped in for the other three goals. Geordan Murphy was solid in net for Seton Hall.

OPPONENT: Notre Dame (Away)

The Pirates of Seton Hall Prep welcomed the transfer students who became eligible to play. The players began to click and defeated Notre Dame by the final score of 5-0. Scott Eberenz led the team with a goal and an assist. Nick Silvestri scored the first goal for Seton Hall. Transfer student Alex Beatrice scored a goal in his debut game. Jon Ralph smoked a slapshot passed the Notre Dame goalie for his second tally of the season. Late in the game, sophomore Pat Callen sealed the game with his first goal of the season.

OPPONENT: Christian Brothers Academy (Home)

Seton Hall disposed of CBA for the second time this season by the final score of 4-2. Defenseman Jon Ralph was the spotlight player gathering two goals and one assist. E.J. Solimine and Alex Beatrice scored the other two goals for the Pirates. Once again, when he was tested, Geordan Murphy came out on top between the pipes with 19 saves.

OPPONENT: Bishop Eustace (Away)

Seton Hall Prep disposes of Bishop Eustace for the second time this season by the score of 10-0. Brady Crooks ended his scoring drought in nice fashion by completing a hat trick. Also scoring a hat trick was Alex Beatrice. Scott Eberenz had a goal and three assists. E.J. Solimine, Ryan Collis, and Chris Barling each had a goal on the evening.

OPPONENT: Brick (Home)

Seton Hall squared off against arch rival Brick. The match was played very tightly and the first goal for the Hall was scored in the second period by Jason DelPiano. After Brick gained the lead again, Matt Dellarocca fired a blast from the point which bulged the twine for a goal. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Pirates outshot Brick 45-26, and Geordan Murphy was spectacular in net stopping 24 shots.

Although the Pirates struggled a bit, they still managed to come away with a victory over Bergan Catholic by the final score of 3-1. Pat Callen and Scott Eberenz got Seton Hall Prep on the board with the first two goals. Later in the game, Alex Beatrice scored an empty net goal to seal the victory.

OPPONENT: St. Joe's Metuchen (Home)

The Pirates answered the call tonight by pummeling St. Joe's of Metuchen by the final score of 9-0. The score could have been greater if several goals were not disallowed. Nonetheless, Alex Beatrice, Jason DelPiano, and John Meyer all registered two goals each. Adding one tally each for the Blue and White were Nick Silvestri, Brady Crooks, and Ryan Guanzon. Seton Hall outshot St. Joe's Metuchen 53-10.

OPPONENT: Hill School (Home)

In a very exciting yet heartwrenching game, Seton Hall Prep skated to a 2-2 tie with the Hill School of Pennsylvania. Scott Eberenz got the Pirates on the board with a goal, and later E.J. Solimine added a goal of his own. With 9:51 remaining in the third period, Hill's Henri Sanders lost his edge and collided head first into the boards. He was taken to a local hospital and released later that night. Luckily he was all right, but for a while, many fans watched in anguish hoping the Hill player would not be permanently injured. As a result of this, the game was stopped and both teams settled for the tie.

OPPONENT: St. Joe's Montvale (Away)

Seton Hall Prep demolished the opposition, St. Joe's of Montvale, by the final score of 10-0. Alex Beatrice scored another hat trick on the evening. E.J. Solimine had two goals and two assists for the Pirates. Jason DelPiano and Jon Ralph each had a goal and two assists. In addition, Brady Crooks ended the game with a goal and an assist. Geordan Murphy continued his dominance in net making 13 saves.

OPPONENT: Brick (Away)

The rivalry of Brick and Seton Hall Prep has been brewing for quite some time. Tonight, the Pirates proved to be victorious over the Brick Green Dragons by taking the game 2-0. Scott Eberenz scored on a powerplay goal with the assist going to Brady Crooks. Ryan Guanzon received a pass from John Meyer to score Seton Hall's second tally of the evening. Geordan Murphy stopped 29 shots in what he called his best performance of the year so far.

OPPONENT: St. Joe's Montvale (Home)

For the second time this season, Seton Hall Prep defeats St. Joe's of Montvale by the final score of 5-0. Five different scorers notched a goal for Seton Hall. Matt Dellarocca, Brady Crooks, Jason DelPiano, Jon Ralph, and Alex Beatrice were the goal scorers. The Pirates outshot St. Joe's 57-9.

OPPONENT: Hudson Catholic (Away)

Seton Hall avenged its early loss in the season to Hudson Catholic by beating them 2-1. It was a hard fought game, and both teams played well, but the Pirates stole the show. Brady Crooks scored the first goal of the contest, and Ryan Collis scored the game-winner. Geordan Murphy stood on his head in net making 22 saves.

OPPONENT: Don Bosco Prep (Away)

In an out of conference game, the Pirates of Seton Hall Prep made their presence known by defeating Don Bosco Prep 6-0. E.J. Solimine led the night with one goal and one assist. The other goal scorers were Scott Eberenz, Alex Beatrice, Nick Silvestri, and John Testa. Brady Crooks had an assist, and Alex Rodriguez made his first start of the season in net.

OPPONENT: Fairfield Prep (Away)

Seton Hall Prep proved they are not only a force to be reckoned with in the state of New Jersey, but also abroad. The Pirates traveled to Connecticut to faceoff against Fairfield Prep. Brady Crooks led Seton Hall, like a true captain, on the scoreboard by depositing two slapshot goals and adding one assist. The other goal scorers for the Blue and White were Scott Eberenz and Evan Massaro. Consistent Geordan Murphy helped preserve the 4-2 win in net.

OPPONENT: Christian Brothers Academy (Home - Gordon Cup Semifinals)

The Pirates of Seton Hall Prep pick up more steam in the Gordon Cup Tournament by defeating Christian Brothers Academy 4-2 in the semifinal round. Alex Beatrice led the Blue and White by scoring two goals. Pat Callen and John Meyer chipped in with a goal apiece. Geordan Murphy continued his dominance in net making 21 saves.

OPPONENT: Brick (Home - Gordon Cup Finals)

5-2 was the final score as the Seton Hall Prep Pirates defeated the Brick Green Dragons. With the victory the Pirates captured the Gordon Cup Trophy and avenged their loss to Brick in last year's Gordon Cup Finals. Brady Crooks led the night with two goals and one assist. E.J. Solimine not only played tough defense, but he also played well on offense scoring one goal and two assists. The other single goal scorers for the Blue and White were Scott Eberenz and Nick Silvestri.

OPPONENT: St. John Vianney (Home - State Tournament Parochial Quarterfinals)

Seton Hall advances to the semifinal round after defeating St. John Vianney 3-0. Scott Eberenz scored two goals to lead the Pirates to victory. Brady Crooks chipped in with a goal of his own. Geordan Murphy earned another shutout by stoning the opposing onslaught.

OPPONENT: Delbarton (State Tournament Parochial Semifinals at Mennen Arena)

An emotional win for the Pirates as they defeat their archrival, the Delbarton Green Wave, by the score of 2-1. Ryan Collis scored first for Seton Hall and Scott Eberenz sailed the game winning goal passed the opposing goaltender. Geordan Murphy was phenomenal in net for the Blue and White stopping 31 shots.
