'98 - '99 Varsity Ice Hockey Game Summaries




DATE: January 11, 1999
OPPONENT: Portledge School (Away)

Seton Hall Prep defeated one of the powerhouse hockey teams in New York, Portledge. Ed Caldwell got the Pirates on the board with a goal, and the assists came from Brady Crooks and Brandon Doria. Doria scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season to lift the Pirates over Portledge 3-2.

DATE: January 21, 1999
OPPONENT: Brick (Away)

Brandon Doria had five goals and one assist to lead the Pirates of Seton Hall Prep over the Brick Green Dragons by the final score of 9-2. Brady Crooks added two goals and two assists. E.J. Solimine played excellent defense, as well as excellent offense, contributing three assists. Also, Scott Eberenz chipped in with a goal. Solid in net, yet again, was senior goalie Jeff Skowronski who made 21 saves.

DATE: January 27, 1999
OPPONENT: Hill School (Away)

Brandon Doria lit up the red light again twice, giving Seton Hall Prep a 2-1 victory over Hill. Sophomore Geordan Murphy was solid in net for the Prep stopping 17 shots.

DATE: February 3, 1999
OPPONENT: Don Bosco Prep (Away)

Junior Brady Crooks tipped his hat to Don Bosco by scoring three goals. E.J. Solimine scored two goals, while John Dibble added one goal and four assists. Also contributing four assists was Brandon Doria.

OPPONENT: Christian Brothers Academy (Home - Gordon Cup Semifinals)

Seton Hall Prep capitalized big time and defeated CBA by the final score of 8-1. Brandon Doria and Brady Crooks both had two goals each. Scott Eberenz, Joe Sammarco, Kyle Fox, and Jason DelPiano also contributed goals for Seton Hall. Jeff Skowronski made 16 saves in net.

DATE: March 6, 1999
OPPONENT: Don Bosco Prep (Home - State Tournament Parochial Quaterfinals)

Junior defenseman Conor McNally scored two goals to give Seton Hall Prep the 3-1 victory over Don Bosco. Brandon Doria also scored a goal and contributed two assists. Joe Sammarco also had two assists. Jeff Skowronski made 13 saves in net to preserve the win.

DATE: March 12, 1999
OPPONENT: Christian Brothers Academy (State Tournament Parochial Semifinals at Mennen Arena)

The Pirates shut out CBA by the final score of 3-0. Brady Crooks scored first with a wicked slapshot in the upper right hand corner of the net. Scott Eberenz scored a goal as well. Crooks finally sealed the game with an empty net goal at the end of the third period. Jeff Skowronski earned his seventh shutout of the season.

DATE: March 16, 1999
OPPONENT: Delbarton (State Tournament Parochial Finals at Continental Airlines Arena)

Seton Hall and Delbarton have built up quite a rivalry over the past years, and this game was a classic. Both teams played three scoreless periods, so the two teams went into overtime. With 2:21 left in overtime, Brady Crooks gathered a pass from E.J. Solimine, and Crooks took a wrist shot in the upper left corner of the net. That shot proved to be the game winner as the Pirates won 1-0. Jeff Skowronski was solid in net stopping 26 shots for the shutout.

DATE: March 28, 1999
OPPONENT: Brick (State Tournament Overall Finals at Continental Airlines Arena)

The Pirates of Seton Hall Prep retained their overall championship for the second straight year defeating rival Brick by the final score of 3-1. Brandon Doria had two goals and one assist while Brady Crooks contributed the other goal. E.J. Solimine's defensive efforts were stellar. Geordan Murphy made 15 saves in relief of Jeff Skowronski to preserve the win and the championship.
